About Me
Elena Rose Crehan
I am studying fashion design at Brighton University. Exploring proportion; especially shortening and widening in unexpected areas of a garment is a current avenue for my exploration of fashion design. One way I like to achieve this volume and silhouette is using pleats. Colour is particularly important in my work, I like to hide colour so that it only shows with movement or so that it’s a secret for the wearer only. I get inspiration from imagining what the characters in books might be wearing as well as from the outfits worn by dandy 1920s male writers and 1940s childrenswear. Issey Miyake’s label Pleats Please is a constant research source as well as Kenzo’s use of print and colour. Christian La Croix’s jewel encrusted appliqué and Christopher Kanes Textile application. I also like the drama created in Alexander McQueens shows and the fun of collections from Ashish, Manish Arora and Bernard Wilhelm.
